About Pace Online

A decade of building software that moves people, information, and goods more efficiently.

Our Story

Founded in 2012, Pace Online began as a leader in online technology and web-based systems, building deep capability in digitisation — from websites and extranets to web portals — for government and private-sector clients across South Africa.

In 2018, a pivotal conversation in the logistics sector sparked the development of DigiCargo, shifting the company from project delivery to product development. That shift defined our trajectory.

Today, Pace Online operates as a software OEM — designing, building, and distributing our own products through strategic distribution channels. Our platforms serve ports, government institutions, national education programmes, and tourism destinations across the continent.

Why Pace Online

A decade of building software that moves people, information, and goods more efficiently. Here's what sets us apart.

Purpose-built products

Every product is designed, developed, and maintained by our team. You get a direct line to the engineers who build and support the software — no resellers, no layers, no disconnect between the product and the people behind it.

Proven in demanding environments

Our platforms operate in ports, government institutions, and national education programmes. These environments demand uptime, offline capability, and durability. We've built for that reality from day one.

African-first, globally relevant

Built for the realities of the African continent — intermittent connectivity, complex procurement, and diverse operational environments. Architected to scale beyond borders as demand grows.

From services to software OEM

We started solving individual client problems. Today we package those solutions as products for entire industries. Our next chapter is distribution through strategic partners, bringing proven platforms to new markets.

The Stevedoring App

Problem

Manual RORO processes struggle with speed, break down when connectivity drops, and create accountability gaps across shifts. Paper-based tallying was slow, error-prone, and offered no real-time visibility into vessel operations.

Solution

An end-to-end SaaS platform with barcode/QR scanning, driver and handler assignment, incident reporting, and shift tracking. Engineered for a ~2-second scan/assign/save cycle with full offline capability.

Outcomes
  • 700,000+ vehicles scanned
  • 300+ vessels processed
  • 150+ consignments managed
  • 40+ shipping agencies on platform
  • Three taps and nine seconds to record a vehicle, location, and handler

NIHSS Virtual Doctoral School

Problem

The National Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences needed national-scale virtual collaboration for PhD candidates. COVID-19 exposed the limitations of in-person-only doctoral support, and existing tools couldn't deliver structured academic community at scale.

Solution

A web and mobile platform built on Uniflo with discussion forums, messaging, live chat, and group management by region, theme, and institution. Released on both Google Play and Apple App Store with iterative updates.

Outcomes
  • National-scale platform for PhD candidates across South African universities
  • Web and mobile apps live on both app stores
  • Structured collaboration by region, theme, and institution
  • Iterative release cycle with continuous improvements

iSimangaliso Wetland Park

Problem

The iSimangaliso Wetland Park Authority — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — needed a modern digital presence for destination marketing and visitor resources. Existing solutions couldn't combine content management, activity discovery, and operator connections in one platform.

Solution

A website built on the SunSeek platform with structured content architecture: places, activities, a resource centre, and connections linking activities to operators and service providers.

Outcomes
  • Live destination portal with structured tourism content
  • Structured content architecture connecting activities to operators
  • Featured SunSeek customer site
  • 36-month service agreement
