From paper tally sheets to shared vehicle-handling records across three RoRo ports.
Vehicle handling does not wait for an office connection. A tally must identify the vehicle, record its movement and make that information useful to the next team. Pace worked with DigiCargo and SA Cargo Services on the business processes, mobile application and web portal behind the Stevedoring App.
The application supports VIN scanning, manual key entry for unmarked cargo, offline capture and synchronisation when connectivity returns. Incident photographs and notes sit alongside operational records, while the web portal brings captured information into reporting and day-to-day oversight. This connects work at the vehicle with the teams responsible for the consignment.
Pace's delivery included installation, testing and training at Durban, Gqeberha and East London. App-based tallying rolled out across the three SA Cargo RoRo ports between December 2023 and January 2024. Subsequent releases addressed real field requirements, including offline workflows, static cargo and operational reporting.
The relationship extends beyond the initial build into maintenance, investigation of production issues and further product development. Pace is the development and production partner; DigiCargo commercialises the platform. The same delivery approach is relevant to vehicle yards, transport handovers and logistics businesses that need a consistent record of what happened to each vehicle.
